Melbourne’s Food Reputation on TV

From our friends at Victoria Tourism:

We have some exciting news to share…

Melbourne is going to be featured on Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations”. Our Melbourne episode is scheduled to air July 20th at 10:00pm EST:

Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations (Season 5)
Australia
July 20, 2009 at 10:00pm EST
Melbourne, known as Australia’s cultural capital, is a melting pot of cultures, and Tony is off to discover what makes it so special. Luckily, Tony has many friends here, all of whom take him to sample the many different cuisines of Melbourne.

Also, Victoria will be included in a special episode entitled “Obsessed” in early 2010. The episode is a round up of chefs and foodies from all over the world who are incredibly driven, experts on a particular ingredient, or just downright obsessed with food!

Matangi Private Island Resort, Fiji, Named One of World’s 12 Best

Matangi Private Island Resort, Fiij, was recently listed in Islands Magazine April/May 2009 issue as one of the Best Private Islands in the World.

As if the half-square-mile horseshoe-shaped island of Matangi isn’t hidden enough, Fiji’s only treehouse accommodations put the privacy literally over the top. Nestled in the foliage, these three split-level bures transport guests into the jungle. They and the other 10 bures all have beach views, of course. For an even more private beach experience, take a picnic lunch and snorkel gear over to Horseshoe Bay. If you do crave more human interaction, take a scenic boat ride west to join the excited divers in the incredible Somosomo Strait at the famous Great White Wall dive site. You’ll have to climb down from your treehouse, though.

Take a look at SeeANZ’ offering of this beautiful resort at our Fiji island vacation.

Anzac Day: Saturday, April 25th

Anzac Day is a national public holiday in Australia and New Zealand.  The day commemorates Australian and New Zealand troops who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I.  Anzac stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.  Symbolic of the dawn landing at Gallipoli, services for Anzac Day are typically held at dawn.  SeeANZ will be attending a dawn service this year in Chicago at the Elks Veterans Memorial.

Read more about Anzac Day at the Australian War Memorial’s website.

Australia Bushfire Update

Extreme heat and winds on Saturday, February 7th resulted in severe bushfires across parts of the Australian state of Victoria. Use the map below for more details:

While many towns have been affected by the fires, Melbourne and many other areas of Victoria have not. Melbourne Airport has not been affected, and metropolitan rail and bus transport continues to service Melbourne. For more information, please visit the official website of Melbourne.

If you wish to donate to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, please visit the Australian Red Cross website.

Last Tuesday, SeeANZ attended a fundraiser event in Chicago organized by the Victorian government. Proceeds from the event and other activites have raised over $18,500 thus far.

Clients in Fiji at Beachfront Bure

We just had some wonderful feedback from two of our clients regarding their recent Fiji vacation, and wanted to share.  Have a look:

“We returned from our trip to Fiji early morning yesterday and I just had to write to say thank you for all of your help in coordinating it.  It was absolutely beautiful there and we had a wonderful time.  The weather was gorgeous and all of the activities were so much fun- we did a lot of snorkeling, kayaking, hiking and fishing (and laying by the pool!).  This is definitely the trip of a life time so I can’t say thanks enough for all you did to help get us there! (this is us in front our beachfront bure!)”

Albino Wallaby

This picture was taken on our last trip back home, at Maru Koala and Fauna Park, in Victoria, Australia.  Albino wallaby’s are particularly rare.

Wallabies, while similar to kangaroos, are smaller and of a different family.

Young wallabies are known as “joeys”, like many other marsupials.

For more information on getting in touch with Australia’s interesting creatures, visit our Australia Nature and Adventure vacation page.
